Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence agents arrested at least nine citizens and civil activists in Mahabad and surrounding villages in western Iran during a series of raids over the weekend.
According to information obtained by IranWire, the raids began in the early hours of Saturday, when IRGC intelligence agents in Mahabad targeted the homes and workplaces of several Kurdish citizens and activists.
The detainees were transferred to the IRGC Intelligence detention center in Urmia.
In a raid on the homes of four Kurdish citizens in Beyram village, agents detained Zaniar Seyed Ahmadi, Siamand Seyed Ahmadi, Aram Mabzoleh, and Yousef Qal.
The arrests were violent and with no judicial warrants presented.
Sources report that Siamand Seyed Ahmadi was released after several hours of detention and interrogation.
On Sunday, the wave of arrests continued as IRGC agents in Mahabad raided the homes and workplaces of five more citizens: Qader Kheramanfar, Jalal Sadafi, Kamal Masoudi, Ayoub Rasouli, and Ribvar Rasouli. The arrests were made without warrants.
Security forces also searched the detainees’ homes, confiscated personal belongings, and seized the mobile phones of their family members.
Jalal Sadafi, Kamal Masoudi, and Qader Kheramanfar are prominent civil activists and former political prisoners.
