An Iranian parliamentary official said today that the Intelligence Ministry has sued outspoken lawmaker Mahmoud Sadeghi for “disclosing classified information” related to the case of “assassination of nuclear scientists” between 2010 and 2012.
“The Intelligence Ministry has sued Mahmoud Sadeghi because despite the Intelligence Minister’s explanations earlier about the case of the nuclear scientists’ assassination he has held meetings with individuals previously suspected in this case and has given them false promises,” Mohammad-Javad Jalali was quoted by Mehr News Agency as saying today.
“He has also disclosed some classified information about the assassination of the nuclear scientists,” Jalali said.
In September Sadeghi had criticized the Intelligence Ministry’s forced confessions from dozens of innocent people, that led to the hanging of one person in 2012.
Sadeghi also demanded that those who had wrongly been accused of the assassinations and forced to confess be exonerated and those responsible for wrongful accusations be punished.
He has presented several motions to the parliament to ban recording and broadcasting forced confessions by the state-run television (IRIB).
The outspoken lawmaker has registered for the upcoming parliamentary elections in February, but his candidacy must be approved by an electoral watchdog stacked by hardliners.
The Intelligence Ministry’s court case against Sadeghi can derail his candidacy.
