Kermanshah Prosecutor Shahram Karami says Iran’s security forces have arrested four people for advertising with live models in a promotional video.
Stressing that the clips are “immoral,” he said that the arrest of “other agents” involved in the case is on the security forces’ agenda.
The live models became the talk of the town on December 5, after photos circulated on social media showing a store using human mannequins for promotional purposes.
Iranian judicial officials have argued that using “unveiled female models and mannequins” to promote clothing is “against the law,” “tradition,” “Sharia,” and “enemy conspiracy.”
The publication of the one-minute clip on social media, showing a woman without a hijab in Kermanshah’s Mo’awen ol-Molk takyeh (small Shi’ites’ mosque), triggered a series of adverse reactions from the city’s officials.
Following the video’s circulation, Kermanshah Cultural Heritage Department officials said the clip was a combination of edited images that date back to 2017.
However, Kermanshah Governor Houshang Bazvand warned that “regardless of the year of the video’s production or how the images were used in it … the security and judiciary official should deal with all those involved in producing and circulating it.”
According to Kermanshah Province’s judicial department, a solitary group is responsible for the controversial photos and promotional video.
