After nearly two months into the tragic Gaza war, with 16,000 killed, 35,000 injured, 6,000 missing, and over two million people displaced, the Iranian regime now speaks more openly about its warmongering objectives in Gaza. Its officials refer to this reality with various statements, indicating that Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei is fanning the flames of war in Gaza to escape from the threat of nationwide uprisings.
In a speech, Javad Enayat, the governor of the regime in South Khorasan province, said, “Whenever there are disturbances or instability in the Islamic Republic of Iran, there are no conflicts or problems in Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, and other countries that are on the frontline of resistance. There, the United States and its allies enjoy peace and tranquility. Why? Because the Islamic Republic of Iran is facing problems internally. Whenever we see stability, security, peace, unity, and coherence within Iran, the opposite becomes evident. At that time, the forces of resistance can engage with the United States and its allies”.
His statement is another expression of the well-known statement made by Khamenei, who has said that if the regime doesn’t fight its enemies outside Iran’s borders, specifically in Iraq, Syria, and Palestine, it will have to fight the enemy, meaning the people of Iran and the protesters, on the streets of Iranian cities.
Mohammad Taghi Osanloo from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said, “Today, our bulwarks are fighting two thousand kilometers away, in Yemen, the fighters of Islam have taken the culture of Khorramshahr, and the fighters of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria all are fighting in Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine”. Esmaeil Khatib, the regime’s Minister of Intelligence, has clearly described warmongering as a means to prevent an uprising. In a speech at a conference with the heads of intelligence of the State Security Forces, he briefed his audience about the imminent danger of an uprising, and said, “An important axis that will have an impact in the future is the victory of the popular, security, intelligence, military, and law enforcement forces of the country in a combined and global war designed against Iran”. Referring to the regional and international objectives of the regime in warmongering in Gaza, Khatib said, “Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is regarded as a major power in the region. Iran is now not only a dominant power in the region but also prominent in various parts of the world, and today they feel the full strength of Iran”.
During a television interview, Hamidreza Haji Babaei, a member of the regime’s parliament, explicitly referred to sacrificing the people of Gaza and Palestine to counter the uprising of the Iranian people. He said, “What is happening in Gaza was supposed to happen in Iran… the same child killings and genocide were supposed to take place within our provinces.” (Source: state-run Ofogh television network, November 12)
It is clear that the regime is using the people of Gaza and Palestine as cannon fodder and victims for its wicked goals. This is a reality that even some regime newspapers have acknowledged. Their issue is neither Palestine nor Israel. Their issue is what they refer to as “the expansion of internal power,” which is another expression for preserving the regime.
After using the coronavirus pandemic to shield his regime against the people, Khamenei is seeking another cover to suppress uprisings and ensure the survival of his illegitimate rule. To put an end to war, destruction, massacre, and achieve peace and tranquility in the region, it is necessary to strike the head of the snake in Tehran.
This will only happen when the international community puts an end to the policy of appeasement toward the regime and proscribes the IRGC, the root of all evils in the Middle East, as a terrorist organization. Peace will only come when this regime is overthrown by the people of Iran and their resistance movement.
