The Syndicate of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company (SWTSBC) Workers has condemned the “massacre and bloody suppression” of people protesting a three-fold increase in gasoline prices.
The labor union has also called for the trial of all involved in ordering and executing the widespread killing, wounding and the arrests of thousands of the protesters.
There is no justification in recent repressions, SWTSBC said in a statement adding, the Islamic Republic has long been busy suppressing all peaceful protests, battering and jailing teachers, students and workers, but deceitfully claims it considers non-violent protests as legitimate.
Most of the participants in the mid-November demonstrations were workers and impoverished families; the statement has averred.
People’s mid-November uprising was a follow-up of the widespread protests that broke out in late December 2017, and soon spread to more than 100 cities across Iran, SWTSBC’s statement said, noting, “It was a response to decades of an unbridled capitalism against the workers and other deprived and impoverished members of the Iranian society.”
Blasting the Islamic Republic’s economic mismanagement, the statement has insisted that in the Islamic Republic’s four-decade domination, “a class of wealthy corrupt exploiters, supported by the establishment has been formed while more than fifty million workers, working children and homeless people living in cartons are suffering from food shortages.”
Furthermore, the statement has also lambasted the Islamic Republic authorities for disregarding Iranians’ fundamental rights, including freedom of expression, education, and faith.
In the meantime, the statement has called for the immediate and unconditional release of thousands of protesters arrested during the recent demonstrations.
