The EU politicians who visited Iran this week are not only ignoring the Regime’s clear human rights violations but de facto endorsing them in order to gain short-term economic benefits.
The Members of the European Parliament, who can be seen laughing and taking selfies in photos from Iran’s state-run media outlet, are effectively laughing in the face of those people who are being suppressed and slaughtered by the Regime.
The MEPs congratulated Ali Larijani, the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, for Iran’s role in bringing stability to the Middle East through its role in the defeat of ISIS and listened without question to ludicrous claims from Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazil that the Iranian opposition are “highly dangerous terrorists”.
However, it appears that they forgot to mention Iran’s role in regional destabilization and terrorism, so let’s run through those.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) – recently designated as a foreign terrorist organisation by the US- is propping up the Bashar al-Assad dictatorship in Syria, as well as supporting the Houthi terrorists in Yemen and the Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon against democratic governments.
It is clear from this that the Iranian Regime is not opposed to terrorism. They support many terrorist cells and have a long working relationship with Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda, as revealed in recently declassified documents that were seized during the US raid on Bin Laden’s Pakistan compound in 2011. As ISIS is an al-Qaeda splinter group, one can only assume that the Iranian Regime actually has close ties to their leaders as well.
In addition, when Iran did evict ISIS from areas in the Middle East, they commenced a genocide of all Sunni Muslims in the area- whether or not they were affiliated with ISIS.
It also appears that the European delegation failed to ask about Iran’s dismal human rights record- executing over 3,500 since supposed moderate Hassan Rouhani became president in 2013, and imprisoning foreign and dual nationals (like British mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe) on fake charges- or even read Amnesty International’s 94-page report on human rights abuses in Iran, which cited torture and extensive use of the death penalty.
Struan Stevenson, a former MEP for Scotland, expressed his revulsion that his former colleagues would not only agree to visit Iran and meet with senior members of the Regime, but also that they would not press the mullahs on their human rights violations, regional destabilisation, and support for terrorism.
He compared the delegation to British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s meeting with Hitler.
He said: “As a former European Commissioner, Janusz Lewandowski should have known better. Shaking hands with murderers in Tehran and even praising them for their fight against ISIS (Daesh), was an act of appalling appeasement on a scale almost similar to Chamberlain’s meeting with Hitler in Munich.”
Stevenson, President of the European Iraqi Freedom Association (EIFA), continued: “Visits of this kind to the epicentre of Islamic fundamentalism and to a regime that is recognized as the Godfather of terror throughout the Middle East and the world, are a grave mistake. Such a visit is a disgrace and a gift to the mullahs’ propaganda machine. Let us hope this mistake is never repeated.”
