The Iranian regime’s former president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, intensively attacked the regime’s Judiciary in a factional feud and said: “If we were to have dictatorship of judiciary, we would not have made revolution.”
Confessing to the “lack of independence” of the Judiciary in an interview with state-run Dowlat Bahar (Spring Government) website, Ahmadinejad said: “One of the great violations the judiciary has committed is placing prisons under the control of the security agencies.”
Ahmadinejad accused the judiciary of corruption, tyranny and dictatorship and called the charges against his deputy Hamid Baghaei “fabricated” and added: “If the words of Hamid Baghaei about the head of this body are a crime, I say these words before anyone else.”
“If it is a crime, I also say to people that swear to God my children are not spies, my brothers are not mediator or renter, they are not land speculator, they are not the exclusive importer of medicine, I myself did not seize or speculate the lands around Qom to set up a dairy,” he said and added, “I am not rolling in Money and I do not have any foreign citizenship, my children and my brothers do not have either.”
At the time of his presidency, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also released a film in Parliament on a conversation between Fazel Larijani (brother of Sadegh Larijani, the head of judiciary) and Saeed Mortazavi, head of the Social Security Organization at the time, during interpellation of the Minister of Labor. In the video clip, Fazel Larijani apparently asks Saeed Mortazavi to sell him one of the social security companies.
There were also reports earlier on the arrest of Sadegh Larijani’s daughter for “spying” for foreigners.
“Right now, part of the prisons is controlled by the IRGC’s intelligence, another part is controlled by Intelligence Ministry, another part is under the supervision of Judiciary, and another part is under the supervision of the prison authorities,” Ahmadinejad added.
He stated that while the bailiffs (law enforcement and security institutions) should be under the jurisdiction of the judiciary, the situation now is such that the judiciary arrests the accused and deliver them to the bailiff.
Referring to Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejehi, the spokesman for the judiciary who said that Hamid Baghaei is in the suite [in the prison], Ahmadinejad said: “God willing, I hope the judiciary officials take their part and live in these suites without any retinue and… to understand what’s going on.”
He also said in the interview that the judiciary is justifying its actions by claiming the fight against corruption.
Addressing the judiciary, he added: “Because you are in power does not mean whatever you do is right?”
Ahmadinejad made these remarks now while he remained silent during his presidency about the actions of the Judiciary and the crackdowns of 2009.
Saeed Mortazavi, who was the main accused of Zahra Kazemi’s case and Kahrizak detention center, was appointed as the head of Social Security Organization upon insistence of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
