On November 19, 2024, the Syrian opposition-affiliated Deirezzor24 website, which covers the Deir Al-Zour region in northeastern Syria, reported[1] that according to an “exclusive source,” Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was training about 30 operatives in the operation of drones in the desert of Mu’ayzilah, near Al-Bukamal, southeast of Deir Al-Zour. The source claimed that the operatives were selected by the Iranian “security office,” and that most of them hail from the cities of Hama and Homs. He added that the training was overseen by commanders known as “Hajj Malik” and “Hajj Hassan,” alongside commanders from the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).
The article noted that a new course would be launched immediately after the completion of the current one, with a similar number of participants. It also mentioned that the graduates would be sent to Al-Mayadin for further training.
A November 6 article by the Syrian opposition-affiliated Euphrates Eye website reported that the Iran-backed Iraqi Al-Nujaba Movement had sent operatives to establish a training camp in Dibsi, west of Raqqa, with the support of the IRGC and the PMU.
