During factional feud among Iranian regime officials, the state-run Etemad newspaper acknowledged the institutionalized corruption as the root of the super-challenges of the system, and in an article on 20 November 2017 titled “The Super Challenge of Iranian Economy” wrote: “We are facing four super-challenges, the first of which is the fundamental decision-making system.”
“This is the main crisis and the background for creating crisis, that is to decide how much the exchange rate and interest rates will be, or how to allocate oil resources to different sectors.”
“Therefore, the basic decision-making system has been the main obstacle to Iran’s development, and all decisions are protecting the interests of particular individuals.”
“This economic system has three main functions: first, distributes bank credits among friends and comrades, and political affiliates; second, the allocates exclusive and pseudo-exclusive opportunities among friends and comrades, that is why we have King of Sugar in Iran and black chador is in the monopoly of a few people. These exclusive opportunities bring unprecedented incomes of tens of billions to individuals, creating a wide class divide and unequal opportunities.”
“The third function of the comradeship capitalist system is to manipulate the pricing system. The product and function of comradeship economics and capitalism are inefficient. Inefficiencies have been the main cause of the collapse of all superpowers over the course of history. The former Soviet Union, with all its military strength, fell apart due to the inefficient economy.”
“The super-challenge of Iranian economy is the decision-making system and governance. Of course, I believe that the type of these decisions-making comes from mere stupor and misery, but also personal interest and the involvement of foreigners.”
“Based on the challenge of the basic decision-making system, three additional challenges arise: first, population and employment, which result in unemployment and the escape of capital and women’s unemployment. The population is a strategic factor and our society is unfortunately moving towards aging. Energy, water and the environment are the next super-challenge that comes from the basic decision-making system. Finally, the super-challenge of innovation and technology; we do not have advanced technology and we cannot meet our basic needs in this regard.”
