While a high ranking European delegation is in Iran to reassure the Islamic Republic about their support for the implementation of the nuclear deal, an Iranian economist believes that the Europeans are not in the favor of a significant boost in trade ties.
“The issue of Iran’s ties with the EU has political and economic aspects. From economic point of view the Europeans may be interested in the expansion of ties with Iran but political motives cast shadow on the efforts to benefit Iran’s economy from the 2015 nuclear accord,” Reza Hosseini told Trend.
“From the political point of view, the Europeans are against the increasing role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region. Therefore they would refrain from taking major steps which would strengthen Iran’s economy. I assume that Europeans share same political views regarding Iran with the US, though its level may be different.”
“We should not expect much from Europeans regarding trade ties. I believe that the trade ties of the EU with Iran will be limited to exporting goods to the Islamic Republic which would eventually help their own economy,” Hosseini said.
Secretary General of European External Action Service (EEAS) Helga Schmid said on Tuesday that the representative of EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, is against the renegotiation of the nuclear deal.
Helga Schmid who is in Iranian city of Esfahan for high level talks with Iranians, on Monday told Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif that all member states of the European Union support the full implementation of the multilateral nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries in 2015.
In the meantime, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi has said that despite the existing gaps about the regional issues, the two sides can reach a peaceful understanding by holding talks.
