The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned Iranians against sharing news of overnight Israeli strikes.
“Citizens are told that any transmission of images or news to hostile media affiliated with the Zionist regime is considered a crime,” the IRGC said.
“Any individual or group cooperating in any way with hostile foreign governments against the Islamic Republic of Iran, if not recognized as waging war, will be sentenced to imprisonment for one to ten years,” the statement added.
The threat of legal action comes as Iranians have been using VPNs to circumvent internet restrictions and share eyewitness accounts of the strikes on social media platforms.
Israel launched airstrikes against military targets in Iran early Saturday, retaliating for Tehran’s missile attack earlier this month.
Israeli forces struck missile manufacturing facilities and air defense systems in three Iranian provinces – Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam – marking the largest direct attack on Iranian territory in over three decades.
The Israeli military said it had completed its “targeted” strikes and achieved its objectives, warning Iran against further escalation.
Iran reported that its air defenses successfully countered the attacks, indicating “limited damage” to some locations.
Iranian media reported multiple explosions near the capital and military bases starting around 2 a.m. local time.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency stated that Iran “reserves the right to respond” with proportional action.
