The commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) has said that America’s weakness is the result of not having a “clerical” political leader.
Hossein Salami speaking at a provincial public event on Friday, October 25 told the crowd, “America and even [our] sworn enemies acknowledge that their biggest weakness is not having a clerical leader”, the official IRNA news agency reported.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is ruled by a Shiite senior cleric, as prescribed by its constitution. He not only embodies political leadership but also controls the country’s powerful religious establishment and institutions. This has become a highly controversial issue in Iran, where many citizens demand a secular democracy.
Salami also said that sixty percent of the world, sixty percent of its military power and fifty percent of its economic power is controlled by the “enemies” of the Islamic Republic but “they cannot make decisions”.
He was apparently referring to the fact that the United States and its allies have not responded militarily to attacks in the Persian Gulf region attributed to Iran.
In a bizarre declaration Salami also added, “If the presidents of America, France and Britain get together, they cannot even create a mosquito”.
He further insisted that the Islamic Republic “is fighting a big war, unprecedented in contemporary history”, adding, “The Iranian people have become so powerful that they don’t even feel this”.
Iran’s economy is in a deep recession, with an estimated 9.5 percent negative growth in 2019, mainly a result of U.S. economic sanctions. Its currency has lost most of its value and inflation is more than 40 percent.
