The Iranian regime is looking for power, control and influence in the Middle East. Everything that it does, it does so for this goal and it does not care about the consequences.
One such example is the drug trafficking that the Iranian regime is involved in. It is something that greatly affects the population of Iran and every year more and more people are becoming addicted to drugs. It is a problem that is seriously effecting the young people of the country and the government is failing to address the issue. Probably because it is something that brings so much revenue to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
As well as drug trafficking, the regime also sells counterfeit money and cigarettes and is involved in money laundering. These are just some of the activities that the Iranian regime carries out.
But let’s not forget the big one! The nuclear program. Despite the 2015 deal, Iran is still working on its nuclear project with the help of illegal smuggling networks and cells.
Iran’s main strategy is to spread chaos across the Middle East and to spark wars and conflicts wherever possible. However, Iran does not get directly involved in the ensuing conflicts. The last time it was an active participant in a war was in 1988 when the Iran – Iraq war ended.
After that, all of the conflicts that Iran became involved with included the use of networks of militias and proxies such as the Afghan Fatimids, Iraqi and Lebanese Hezbollah, Yemeni Ansar Allah, and many other groups across the whole region. They are all participating for the rise of Iran.
Iran dodges getting involved in the conflicts, so instead it sends arms to the conflict hotspots and it provides financial support and training to proxies and militias. The IRGC’s Quds Force goes there to build up the local militias that are there on behalf of Iran.
The United States, in its ongoing effort to curb Iran’s influence, has said that it is going to find out more about how Iran is behaving in the region and how it goes about operating. The US will gain assistance from allies in the Middle East and they will pay particular attention to training and smuggling networks.
The US has said that it will release information about such efforts.
It is essential that these efforts uncover the dangerous activities that the Iranian regime is involved in. Recently, reports have indicated that there are strong links between Al-Qaeda and Iran – another aspect that the US is looking into.
It has been reported that in 2003, Al-Qaeda carried out a number of explosions in Saudi Arabia. It was initially thought that it was Saudi terrorists were behind the explosions, but it turns out that it was ordered by the Egyptian terrorist Saif Al-Adel, Osama bin Laden’s right-hand-man. Al-Adel is believed to have played a role in the 11th September attacks in the US and was a fugitive in Iran where he was being protected. The orders for the bombings came from Iran.
