One member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was killed, and three others were wounded in an armed clash with Kurdish opposition fighters in the western Kurdistan Province on Tuesday.
The confrontation occurred in a village in Sarvabad district when IRGC forces reportedly surrounded members of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), a Kurdish opposition group.
According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, IRGC forces ambushed a member of the group in the village, triggering a firefight.
Local sources identified the deceased IRGC member as Mohammad Ahmadpour.
IRGC-affiliated media outlets confirmed both the clash and the casualties among their forces but did not provide additional details about the circumstances or potential casualties among the opposition fighters.
This incident is the latest in a series of confrontations between Iranian security forces and Kurdish opposition groups active in the western regions of Iran.
The area has long been a source of tension between the Islamic Republic and various Kurdish political and militant organizations.
