An armed confrontation between members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and an unidentified armed group has left at least four IRGC members dead and three others seriously injured.
The incident occurred near the city of Bukan in West Azerbaijan province in the early hours of Monday, according to the Hengaw human rights organization, which covers developments in Iran’s Kurdish areas.
The clash took place at 2:00 a.m. at a checkpoint on the Bukan Dam road.
The injured IRGC members were transferred to Qolipour Hospital in Bukan for treatment. One severely injured member was airlifted to medical facilities in Urmia due to the severity of his condition.
In the aftermath of the incident, Iranian security forces have reportedly increased their presence in the area.
The Bukan Dam road has been closed to all traffic, including local farmers attempting to access their lands.
Hospital staff at Qolipour Hospital have been instructed not to disclose any information about the incident, with some personnel having their mobile phones confiscated, according to Hengaw.
No official statement has been released by IRGC-affiliated media, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
