The Iraqi Resistance Coordination Committee threatened that it would attack US bases and interests in Iraq if the United States responded to Iran’s missile attack on Israel.
The group, which consists of Iraqi armed factions supported by Iran, said on Telegram that it will target US bases in Iraq and the region if it engages in a hostile act against Iran or if Israel uses Iraqi airspace to carry out attacks.
The warning follows an Iranian missile attack on Israel, in which nearly 200 ballistic missiles targeted Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv, in retaliation for Israel’s killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian commander Abbas Nilforoushan in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, as well as Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh earlier in Iran.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement that the operation was carried out with direct military assistance and in compliance with an order from the country’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).
The IRGC has pledged to respond to any military reaction by Israel to this operation with even more devastating and powerful attacks, noting that the missile attack is only the beginning of a series of operations.
