After a month of hunger strike, the political and conscious prisoner, Soheil Arabi on Saturday, September 23, 2017, started a dry hunger strike and announced that he will not stop till his wife is acquitted of all charges and is freed. He has also refused to go to the infirmary of Evin Prison.
It is noteworthy that a short while ago in a letter to the Commander of ‘Tharallah Division’ of the Revolutionary Guards, Soheil Arabi held him responsible for his life. The letter reads,
“I want to make it clear that my wife and I must be acquitted and released, according to the rules. The pressures must be removed from my family. Those Websites that have released fake news about us must receive refutation. Obviously, my patience will end soon.”
Soheil Arabi also had written,” If my demands are not fulfilled within one week, I will go on dry hunger strike. I have experienced critical conditions. I blame the Commander of Tharallah Division, if anything bad happens to me or to my family.”
It is notable that, Soheil Arabi was arrested in January 2013 with an indictment from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ Sarallah garrison, and was interrogated and pressured for two months in the IRGC-run section of Evin Prison.
He has been tried so far by various ‘courts’ over of the content of his Facebook page and other webpages which he has administered.
His wife Nastaran Naimi was also detained by the IRGC’s intelligence forces on Monday, July 31, and is currently detained in Evin Prison Section 2-A.
Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court of the Iranian regime sentenced Arabi to three years imprisonment allegedly for “insulting the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic and propaganda against the regime” and Branch 10 of the State Court for the Prosecution of State Employees Crimes sentenced him for “insulting the authorities” to 500 thousand tomans cash fine and 30 lashes.
Arabi’s health conditions in recent days has deteriorated and as a result of decreased blood pressure, he has gone unconscious but prison officials have refused to transfer him to hospital.
