On Saturday, September 23, Iranian regime announced, test launching a new ballistic missile named Khorramshahr. The range of the missile, which was shown on a military parade the previous day, is said to be 2000 km, and has the ability to carry several warheads, according to the IRGC Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of IRGC Aerospace.
The purpose of the mullahs’ regime for the development of ballistic missiles is to explicitly violate United Nations Security Council resolution 2231, and, on the other hand, to pave the way for intensifying the war and terrorist interventions in the region and cover up the internal crises. This action well confirms the fact that the unjustified concessions received in the nuclear deal not only do not change the behavior of this regime, but has also emboldened it in breaking the laws, and exploiting the gaps and weaknesses in the JCPOA to expand terrorism and fundamentalism and crisis in the region.
At the same time, the regime’s President Rouhani emphasized on the expansion of the missile industry and said: “Whether you want it or not, we shall defend the oppressed people of Yemen, Syria and Palestine, and we will strengthen our military and defense capabilities to the extent necessary.” (Fars News Agency-September 22).
Iranian Resistance reaffirms the need for a decisive response to the mullahs’ regime for breaching Security Council Resolution 2231 and continuing the production and testing of ballistic missiles. This is a prerequisite for peace and tranquility and for preventing the continuation of the warmongering of the Iranian regime in the region. In recent years, the silence of the international community against the continued violations of the Security Council resolutions by the regime has contributed greatly to the progress of its nuclear projects and its proximity to the atomic bomb.
Maj. Gen. Hassan Firouzabadi, Khamenei’s top advisor, who was head of the General command of the Armed Forces until last year, said a while ago, “No rocket will be fired in this country unless it is confirmed by the Commander in Chief. Even for the firing in military drills, it is also necessary to get the permission of the leader of the revolution … Even the time of firing and when it should be fired is determined by him that this should be fired at that time.”(Tasneem, the Quds Force News Agency, November 12, 2016) .
Resolution 2231 calls upon the Iranian regime “not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology.”
