The commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards says his country has become so powerful that its enemies blame it for any atrocity “even if they know it’s a lie.”
Hossein Salami, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) told residents of a village in a speech in north eastern Iran: “We have prevented the enemy’s infiltration in the war theater. Thanks to God’s blessing, all routes are closed to the enemies.”
Salami’s remarks come in the wake of a devastating attack on Saudi Arabia’s key oil facilities. Washington and Riyadh have openly blamed Iran for the attack and have begun producing evidence.
The IRGC commander added “We do not fear big or small enemies. Our soldiers, revolutionary guards and Basij militia are guarding the country’s borders with their eyes wide open.”
Assuring the audience of the Islamic Republic’s power, Salami added: “The enemy wants to keep us poor and weak, but we do not allow this to happen.”
The reference to economic hardship is related to U.S. sanctions, which have pushed Iran’s economy into a deep recession.
He said Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s main preoccupation is the people’s livelihood and “we are working hard on his behalf to help you.”
