Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the British chargé d’affaires on Tuesday following the UK’s decision to impose sanctions on three Iranian nationals and a unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The sanctions, announced on Monday, targeted Hamid Fazeli, Behnam Shahriari, Abdolfatah Ahvazian, and Unit 700 of the Quds Force, accusing them of supporting destabilizing activities in Israel, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, and other countries.
Majid Nili Ahmadabadi, the Iranian ministry’s director for Western Europe, called in the British diplomat, criticizing the sanctions as inconsistent with the UK government’s recent policies of engagement and cooperation. Ahmadabadi also condemned Britain’s support of Israel, particularly its actions against Palestinians and its alignment with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which he claimed were fueling regional instability.
The British diplomat, in response, stated that the concerns raised by Iran would be passed on to the UK government.
This diplomatic exchange highlights the growing tensions between Iran and the UK over both sanctions and broader regional conflicts.
