The Islamic Republic’s authorities have arrested the teenage brother of a protester killed during the 2022 protests.
Ramyar Abubakri, 16-year-old brother of Zaniar Abubakri, one of the victims of the crackdown on the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising, was arrested on Tuesday by forces from the Ministry of Intelligence.
An informed source told IranWire that security forces raided the home of Zaniar Abubakri’s father and violently arrested Ramyar.
The young man was beaten during the arrest and subsequently transferred to an unknown location.
This is the second arrest of a slain portester’s kin. IranWire earlier reported that Siavash Soltani, the son of Kobra Sheikheh, another victim of the protest crackdown, was also forcefully arrested on Tuesday.
In 2022, the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody sparked widespread protests across Iran. Demonstrators, led by women and youth, demanded increased freedoms and an end to mandatory hijab laws.
