Iran is currently going through its worst economic and social crises because of the Iranian regime’s widespread corruption and bad policies, combined with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The latter of which has severely escalated due to the ban of foreign vaccines being imported at the beginning of this year.
As different crises deepen, the state media warn about popular uprisings. These warnings continue to increase as the regime’s new president, Ebrahim Raisi begins his work.
State-run Ebtekar daily reported on Sunday that the efficiency of the regime will be in jeopardy if the government fails. They stated that the regime is facing several challenges from their huge budget deficit to the ever-increasing spread of Covid-19 and its subsequent horrifying death toll that climbs daily. The most worrying is the reducing tolerance of the Iranian people. Ebtekar said, “They have lost everything. Those compatriots who have nothing to lose are outnumbered. Any pressure could tear people’s tolerance apart.”
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) said, “On Sunday, the state-run Javan daily, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), underscored the Iranian society’s restiveness…Javan daily blamed the current situation on the previous government’s corruption.”
Sharq, a state-run daily published a warning to the regime on Sunday of the consequences of the growing dissatisfaction of the Iranian people faced with the current crises in the country.
They wrote, “The deadly expansion of the coronavirus also has comprehensive human, social and economic consequences. These issues are not the product of the actions of a particular government, but the result of the country’s domestic, regional and international policies in recent decades, as well as external pressures on the [regime], which has itself become a complex structural dilemma.”
The Sharq article explained the issues Iran is facing are impacting other political, economic, and social structures of the country. The continuous widespread protests up and down the country, along with the poor voter turnout during the sham presidential election a few months ago are the current testaments to just how dissatisfied the Iranian people are with the regime, their policies, and their handling of the current crises.
The NCRI said, “While acknowledging the regime’s institutionalized corruption, Sharq described actions such as ‘shedding light on dark houses of corruption’, factional feuds, and ‘Deep political competition and interests’ as ‘pathological requirements’.”
The Sharq publication also explained how the regime’s policies have caused a devastating wave of poverty in Iran and continue to do so with ever-increasing numbers. Among those regions most affected are many border provinces. They also acknowledged that ‘widespread marginalization in metropolitan areas and other parts of the country are other aspects of poverty’. Due to inflation, sky-rocketing prices of even basic goods and food, along with the loss of jobs have left millions of people and their families struggling to get by.
