Ex-political prisoner Alireza Nabavi sent to prison again
Reports from the city of Semnan, northern Iran, indicate that on, August 27, former political prisoner, Alireza Nabavi Chashmi, was sent to prison again.
He is said to have been summoned to serve a 15-month prison sentence. Alireza Nabavi had previously been arrested in February 2020. In addition, Alireza Nabavi was arrested during the nationwide protests in 2009 on charges of supporting the Mojahedin Khalq (MEK/PMOI) and spent a long time in prison.
The former political prisoner has now been summoned to prison after his appeal against his latest sentence was quickly rejected and he was pressured to report to prison sooner or else his previous bail would be forfeited.
It should be noted that on Saturday, February 13, 2021, Mr. Alireza Nabavi was arrested by security officers on a street in Semnan and taken to an unknown location.
Following this arrest, intelligence agents and plainclothes officers raided his home, searched and destroyed his belongings, and confiscated some of his items.
This former political prisoner remained in custody until March 5, 2021, after which he was released on bail. He was later sentenced to 15 months in prison for publicity against the government. The same verdict was upheld immediately in the appeals court.
The persecution of civil society activists under the pretext of publicity against the regime has become a well-known tactic of the ruling intelligence apparatus in Iran. The purpose of this act is to create a suffocating atmosphere in society and to suppress the people as much as possible.
Political prisoner Arjang Davoodi continues to be cut off from the outside world
The latest news about political prisoner Arjang Davoodi is related to June of this year. He is said to have been transferred from Zabol Prison, south-east Iran, to Gohardasht Prison in Karaj. It was reported that Arjang is being held in a cell without any connection to the outside world. He is kept in solitary confinement away from other prisoners.
This political prisoner has been kept away from other prisoners for more than four years and in special security conditions. The question is why? Does a teacher, who is nearly 70 years old, pose a security threat to be treated in such a way?
Prison officials are terrified of political prisoner Arjang Davoodi’s contact with other political prisoners. They are worried that this old and freedom-loving political prisoner will influence other prisoners and encourage them to resist the guards.
He has been in prison for more than 18 years without the basic rights of a prisoner. He has never been granted furlough. He has been denied access to the telephone for many years. He has been held in solitary confinement and special security conditions for almost three years now. All these indicate that he is in a serious situation.
