In fear of uprisings, Ali Khamenei sends more prisoners to the gallows every day. On Monday, August 7, the judiciary executioners hanged a fellow Baluch named Abdulghaffar Shahiki (Hashem Zehi) and an Afghan prisoner in Kerman prison.
On August 6, three prisoners named Amir Jahangiri, Sajjad Nazari, and Mohsen Sharifi were hanged in Karaj Central Prison. Another prisoner, Arsalan Kazemi, along with another inmate, was executed in Arak Central Prison. Moreover, Jabbar Moslimi was executed in Qazvin prison, and a prisoner in Dezful prison was also hanged by the regime’s executioners.
The regime’s judiciary also executed three other prisoners Mohammad Javad Akbari, Kianoush Taymouri, and Sharif Akbari in Khorramabad Central Prison (Parsilon) on August 2. Mohammad Javad Akbari had been arrested three years ago when he was 16. In addition to five executions as announced in the NCRI statement of August 1, another prisoner Rouhollah Azizi was sent to the gallows in Arak Central Prison on August 1. As of now, the tally of registered executions since last Tuesday has reached 24.
Concurrently with intensifying prisoner executions, the mullahs’ regime has appointed Mohammad Movaheddi Azad and Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, two of its most criminal judicial officials, as the Head of the Supreme Judiciary and Chief Prosecutor, respectively. Movaheddi Azad, who previously headed the court for judges, has been responsible for sending numerous prisoners to the gallows for decades, in his capacity as the head of the First Instance Court, head of the so-called Revolution Court, and the head of Tehran’s Appeal Court.
According to the IRNA news agency on August 6, the head of the regime’s judiciary, Gholam-Hossein Eje’I, when introducing these two, expressed that pursuing and punishing the opponents under the pretext of “those who undermine divine values and disrupt people’s security” is their top priority. He stated, “The concept of legitimate freedoms needs to be updated. Sometimes in the world and even in our own country, the issue of freedom is raised in a way that is fundamentally against freedom. Nowadays, the worst injustice is carried out against women in some Western countries, and yet they call it freedom. We want to defend the people’s legitimate freedoms.”
Iranian Resistance once again calls on the United Nations, the European Union, and member states to take urgent and effective action to confront the wave of executions and save the lives of death row prisoners. This medieval regime must be expelled from the international community, and its leaders must be brought to justice for their four decades of crimes against humanity and genocide.
