A professor at Iran’s Tehran University said in a recent TV interview that people should burn more U.S. flags, as this would help establish solidarity with U.S. protesters.

In a July 18 interview with Iran’s Ofogh TV, professor Foad Izadi said, “We aren’t burning enough American flags. We need to prioritize our target audience if we want to start acting in America.”

That target audience, he said, was “Americans who have been hurt by America, those who are tearing down statues and burning flags.”

When these people see that Iran is also burning U.S. flags—”and they may have learned to do this because they saw us doing it”—it will create “relations and solidarity between us,” he said.

Izadi said that while it was true that some Americans would be offended by Iranians burning U.S. flags, even they would wonder why Iranians were doing it.

“Even they will ask,” he said, “What have we done to Iran to cause it to do such a thing?”
