The New-Christian prisoner, Amin Afshar Naderi, incarcerated in Evin prison, has been on hunger strike for 15 days but the prison officials do not show any reaction to his legitimate requests despite his deteriorating physical and health condition.
Amin Afshar Naderi has staged a hunger strike to protest repeated violation of law by prison officials following recent visit to Evin prison by ambassadors of foreign countries in which the prison official prevented meeting of the ambassadors with political prisoners. He is now suffering from extreme weakness and severe drop in blood pressure on his 15th day of hunger strike.
This prisoner of conscience has announced that he will not end his hunger strike until a fair trial is conducted and an action is taken to reduce the amount of bail set for his temporary release.
Branch 26 of the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Court issued a sentence of 15 years imprisonment for Amin Afshar Naderi this week. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of “acting against national security through the formation of a church,” and 5 years in prison on charges of “insulting the sacred” and also barred for two years from leaving the country. The court was held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, but the verdict was delivered to Mr. Naderi verbally in the past days.
According to reports, this prisoner of conscience was not allowed to study the verdict, and according to the judge, the official notification will be made to his lawyer. Amin Afshar Naderi was arrested on Friday, September 2016, along with several other new Christian converts, in a private garden in Firoozkooh on charges of “membership of house church” and transferred to section 209 of Evin Prison. After three months of interrogation, this new Christian was transferred to Hall 3 of the Evin Prison’s fourth chamber and has been kept in this section since then.
