Two members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards were killed late Saturday in an attack by gunmen near the border with Pakistan.
Two others were injured by the “terrorists”, state television reported.
The southeastern Sistan and Baluchistan province has been the scene of past clashes involving militants.
Relations between Pakistan and Iran were strained after a suicide bomber killed 27 Guards members in mid-February in a southeastern region, with Iranian officials saying the attackers were based inside Pakistan.
The Jaish al Adl group, which says it seeks greater rights and better living conditions for the ethnic Baluch minority, claimed responsibility for that attack.
Iranian authorities say militant groups operate from safe havens in Pakistan and have repeatedly called on the neighboring country to crack down on them.
