A 31-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her husband in Sanandaj in Kurdistan province, Iranian human rights sources reported.

The victim, Aida Heydarian, an employee at the Red Crescent pharmacy in Sanandaj, suffered multiple stab wounds in the attack.

Hana Human Rights Organization reported that the perpetrator, identified as Aram Zarei, attempted suicide following the murder and was admitted to a medical center in Sanandaj.

The human rights website Hengaw later confirmed that Zarei was arrested and transferred to prison after receiving medical treatment.

The motive behind the murder remains unclear. However, Hengaw reported that Zarei had a history of violent behavior towards his wife, including previous assaults and beatings.

A recent report by an organization monitoring human rights violations in the country documented at least 13 cases of femicide between May and June this year.

Twelve of the murders were committed by relatives of the victims, including husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons.

The frequency of such incidents has been increasing over the past four decades.
