Iranian people have been holding major protests across Iran because power outages have continued and economic problems have increased across the country, which is causing the people to protest the problems with the regime as a whole.
On Tuesday, 160 Haft Tappeh sugar cane company workers protested in Shush, Khuzestan province, for the tenth day over the company’s refusal to renew their contracts or making them full-time employees. Meanwhile, ranchers in Damghan, Semnan province, protested outside the electricity organization offices over ongoing power cuts and the regime’s refusal to recognize the problems that this causes.
Dairy farmers in Isfahan protested over pricing policies that make it hard for them to sell their milk at an appropriate price, which makes it hard for them to afford animal feed and means that they can’t really make a good living.
One farmer said: “We are in a state of bankruptcy. Therefore, we will not deliver our milk to the factory until our demands are met. I will empty the milk on the ground.”
Meanwhile, farmers in Khuzestan rallied over power cuts and water shortages, which have led to the devastation of hundreds of acres of land and caused thousands of families to suffer issues. The farmers entered the water and electricity organization offices for a sit-in.
Residents in Eslamshahr rallied, even blocking roads, to protest power outages and demand that the regime change its policies.
Of course, this is only one of the places where electricity blackouts are causing nightly protests. Social media reports say that people take to the streets in Shiraz, Karaj, Rasht, Khorram Abad, and more, as soon as the power cuts out, chanting anti-regime slogans like “Down with [Ali] Khamenei,” “Down with [Ebrahim] Raisi,” and “Down with the dictator.”
Videos posted on social media show that protests have intensified in several Iranian cities due to frequent power outages. In a number of cities, people chanted slogans against Khamenei, the Supreme Leader.
And the State-run media, which rarely cover protests, were forced to cover the protests of several cities in northern Iran on Monday.
The state-run Aftab-e Yazd newspaper wrote Wednesday: “In the outraged society, there’s nothing but destruction, and officials must fear the accumulation of this rage… when the people can’t achieve their rights, the expression of outrage is only natural.”
The paper then acknowledged that the problems are caused by the regime’s “inefficiency and mismanagement”, warning that the people are “outraged” and that officials “are largely responsible”.
They wrote: “The scale of the disaster is much greater than a simple apology by officials could fix. Our people know and understand, and all governments throughout these years have made no investment in developing the society. Our people know that inefficiency and mismanagement have caused problems they face today, and this infuriates them.”
The Jahan-e-Sanat newspaper described the more basic reasons for this as follows: “The problem of the electricity situation in the country today is directly related to the monopoly and rent-seeking of the construction of the power plants, the non-attraction of domestic or foreign investors and the time-consuming nature of the defined projects.”
Another reason is the regime’s profiting from the cryptocoin mining as the state-run daily Arman wrote: “Support for the extraction of cryptocurrencies and the organization of its internal exchange market was prepared in the Parliamentary Economic Commission, which raised serious concerns about the electricity crisis. According to the plan, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade will be responsible for issuing licenses for cryptocurrencies mining farms, and in cooperation with the Ministries of Economy, Oil, Energy, and Communications will process the country’s cryptocurrencies mining farms to generate gross annual revenue of $ 500 million in 2022.”
