More than 30 Iranian opposition activists living abroad have written to Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett asking him to continue opposing the Islamic Republic, saying that a democratic Iran can be Israel’s strategic ally.
The activists also told Bennett that a democratic Iran can be constructive member of the international community and bring stability, especially to the Middle East,
The Islamic Republic is a sworn enemy of Israel and its top officials have called for the destruction of the Jewish state in the past. Tehran has helped create the Lebanese Hezbollah and has supported many other groups with militant opposition to Israel.
Bennett’s predecessor, Benjamin Netanyahu was a staunch opponent of Islamic Republic’s anti-Israeli stance and closely cooperated with former US president Donald Trump in bringing pressure on Tehran. Bennett and his allies have also vowed not to allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons or continue its regional policies.
The signatories of the letter have also asked Israel’s prime minister to stand tough against “terrorist forces”, especially the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps or IRGC.
They have also asked Bennett to stand by Iranian opposition groups who are united in their goal to topple the Islamic Republic. They have added that they await the day when the ancient peoples of Iran and Israel establish good political, cultural economic and technological relations.
