The Iranian regime, for four decades, has suppressed the people of Iran. It has denied the people of the most basic of human rights and has plundered their wealth. It has ensured that freedom is curbed and it has punished countless citizens for acts that it describes as “immoral”. Acts that most of the rest of the world do not give a second thought about in their respective countries. For instance, posting their political opinions on social media, wearing what they wish, holding or attending mixed-sex parties, campaigning for human rights, and so on.
Since the regime’s inception, the people of Iran have been brutally oppressed. But they are also continuing to get stronger and more defiant of the regime. Only a few years ago, it would be unheard of for a lot of Iranians to take to the street and protest against their government. Now it is something that more and more people are brave enough to do, even though they know that they risk imprisonment, arrest, torture and even execution.
But the situation has reached such a critical state that none of this matters any more for the people. They want regime change and they will do everything in their power to ensure that they, and the generations to come, do not have to experience this repression.
The Iranian regime sees the people as a major threat to its existence and it is reacting in the only way it knows how. With yet another crackdown.
The Iranian regime announced earlier this month that it wants people to report any instances of “immoral” behaviour that they witness to the Guidance Prosecutor. The citizens of Iran were instructed to do so via a message on social media.
It said that people should report any relevant behaviour and to film or photograph it.
It gave the example of women not being properly veiled and other abuses “that break the norms in automobiles, alcohol use, and holding mixed gender parties in places such as traditional restaurants, cafés, shopping centers and gardens”.
The Guidance Court stated that this new course of action has the aim of helping the authorities to hasten its “process of dealing with norm breakers”. It also said that it wants to “use the capacity of citizens” to ensure that the regime can crack down on civil liberties with greater ease.
This guidance has not been well-received by the people who are angry that the government is so open and explicit about its suppression of civil liberties.
The people of Iran are going to be the force behind regime change. They have made it very clear over the course of the past couple of years that they will not be silenced by the cruel and callous regime. The people are supported by the Iranian Resistance that will not relent until the people finally have the rights that they deserve.
The regime’s crackdowns on the people are futile acts that will not change the will of the people.
