The Iranian regime will face further sanctions in response to its expected breach Sunday of a uranium enrichment cap, United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said.
“Iran’s latest expansion of its nuclear program will lead to further isolation and sanctions,” the top US diplomat said on Twitter on Sunday.
“Nations should restore the longstanding standard of no enrichment for Iran’s nuclear program. Iran’s regime, armed with nuclear weapons, would pose an even greater danger to the world,” Secretary Pompeo added.

Iranian regime officials said earlier on Sunday that Tehran was hours away from breaching the cap set by the 2015 nuclear deal reached with international powers but from which the United States withdrew last year.
Germany’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that Berlin is extremely concerned about Tehran’s breach of the nuclear deal.
“Germany, like our E3 countries and EU partners, is extremely worried about Iran’s announcement that Iran has started the uranium enrichment beyond the 3.67 percent ceiling set by the JCPOA,” a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry said, referring to the three European countries Germany, France and Britain involved in the Iran nuclear deal.
“We urge Iran to discontinue and reverse any steps that are inconsistent with Iran’s commitments under the JCPoA. This includes the crossing the limits set in JCPoA on stocks of low-enriched uranium,” the spokesperson said.
