As Iran dominates Western news cycles with its threats of violating the 2015 nuclear deal and its alleged attacks on tankers in the Persian Gulf region, the Iranian Resistance is raising its profile so that the world knows there is a democratic and peaceful alternative to the mullahs, the Washington Times says today.
Last Saturday, thousands of Iranians and their supporters gathered outside the EU headquarters in Schuman Place and marched into central Brussels – the first in a series of marches across Europe and the US in coming weeks. There, they were addressed by various dignitaries, including members of the European and Belgian parliaments and the leader of the Iranian resistance, Maryam Rajavi.
Rajavi reminded Europe that Iran was caught plotting terrorist attacks on the Iranian Resistance in Europe twice in 2018, at the Albanian headquarters of the Resistance in March and at the Free Iran rally in France in June. Those arrested and charged include Iranian diplomats stationed in Europe.
She said: “The terrorist operations in Europe, the attempted bombings in Albania and France, the arrests of the Iranian regime’s mercenaries and its terrorist diplomat, and the expulsions of another four of the regime’s terrorist diplomats over the past year, all verified the Iranian Resistance’s repeated disclosures that the Iranian regime’s embassies in Europe are all centres for planning and carrying out the regime’s criminal plots.”
Rajavi urged European governments to heed the example of the US by imposing sanctions on the Iranian Regime and designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
The anti-Regime protests will continue, with another planned for Friday in Washington DC, in order to showcase that the legitimate will of the people is the overthrow of the Regime.
Shahin Gobadi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran said: “This is the first time that a series of protests with such dimensions are continuously organized by the Iranian Resistance and its supporters in the West.”
He continued: “These protests are being held while the Iranian regime faces an explosive society that wants its downfall, and while the regime grapples with a nationwide resistance led by the People’s Mujahideen Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK), inside Iran. And unlike the past, there are no signs of the appeasement policy in the US to help the regime at this critical juncture. These crises have brought the regime’s internal conflicts to their highest levels, between Rouhani and Khamenei. All these indicate the regime is in its final phase. The series of marches by Iranians in different countries is a crucial answer to this situation.”
The Iranian protesters are urging the European Union to end its “shameful” appeasement policy towards the Regime and join the US in sanctioning Iran.
