Bashir Biazar, the former director of the music and anthem office of the Iranian regime, was arrested in France recently and is facing deportation from the country.
Tehran claims that he is a harmless ‘journalist’, but the authorities in Paris consider him to be an influencer of the regime and related to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
Arrest and Detention
On June 3rd, the French police arrested Biazar in the city of Dijon and detained him. This 41-year-old Iranian citizen, who has been living in France with his wife and two children on a long-term visa for two years, was arrested following an ‘immediate deportation’ order issued by the French Ministry of Interior on May 22.
According to Le Monde, the French Ministry of Interior has introduced Biazar as an infiltrating agent related to the intelligence services of the Iranian regime in this deportation order.
Iranian Authorities’ Response
Kazem Gharibabadi, Secretary of the Human Rights Staff and Deputy Head of the Judiciary of the Iranian regime, announced on Monday, June 17, by publishing a picture of Biazar and his children on the X social network, that according to the decision of the French court, Biazar will be deported from France within 28 days.
Gharibabadi claimed on June 6 that the reason for the “innocent arrest” was ‘defending the Palestinian people’ and called this action ‘another scandal for France in the field of human rights’.
Biazar’s Background and Activities
According to Iran’s internal sources, Bashir Biazar is the former secretary of the London-based Islamic Student Association and the production manager of the Radio Music and Hymn Office. He studied political science and filmmaking in Iran, India, and the UK.
Biazar has repeatedly expressed his support for the Iranian regime and the cause of the Palestinians on social networks.
On December 3, 2023, he shared a video of his attendance and speech at a meeting at the United Nations and wrote: ‘I had the opportunity to speak at a meeting at the United Nations about Iran sanctions, Israeli crimes, and the lack of character of the United Nations.’
Diplomatic Efforts and Allegations
On June 6, Ali Bagheri Kani, the Iranian deputy foreign minister, discussed Biazar’s case with the Iranian ambassador in Paris, and Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also announced that the release of Biazar is one of the priorities of this ministry.
Kanaani said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated diplomatic measures since learning about Biazar’s arrest and is continuing to contact his family.
Despite the Iranian regime authorities’ claims that Biazar is ‘just a journalist’, the evidence contradicts this claim.
According to LePoint’s report, he has been visiting the Iranian regime embassy in Paris unmolested and has been under the supervision of the French authorities for security reasons.
Furthermore, according to LePoint’s report, the French authorities consider Bashir Biazar to be an infiltrator of the Iranian regime and related to the intelligence services of the Iranian regime, especially the 840th unit of the IRGC’s Quds Force, which is responsible for planning and conducting operations outside Iran.
