Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Wednesday that Judea and Samaria is a “major battleground for Palestinian factions against Israel”, i24NEWS reported.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups have long tried to increase their foothold in Judea and Samaria, and Khamenei’s statement could indicate growing Iranian support for that.

The Supreme Leader’s remarks came a day after he met with Islamic Jihad leader Ziad Nahala in Tehran, during which he congratulated the terror group on its latest campaign against Israel.

“The enemy’s (Israel) inaction today shows that the resistance factions know the right path,” said Khamenei, who added that “the strength and capability of the Palestinian resistance and Islamic Jihad factions are increasing day by day.”

Iran has historically provided support to both Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. Officials in both groups have admitted in the past that Iran provided them with financial and military assistance.

In August of 2022, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi met in Tehran with Islamic Jihad leader Nahala. During the meeting, the Iranian President lashed out at Israel.

Khamenei regularly attacks Israel, to which he refers as a “terrorist state”.

In May of 2021, he called on Muslim nations to keep fighting against Israel, which he said was not a state but a “terrorist garrison” against Palestinian Arabs.
