Intense clashes between the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and a Kurdish opposition group took place in the highlands of the Kurdish city of Sarvabad on Tuesday, Hangaw news reports indicate.
The military wing of the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK) issued a statement claiming responsibility for an operation conducted in response to IRGC attacks on the heights of Kosalan in Sarvabad.
The operation resulted in the death of a member of the Islamic Republic’s military forces, identified by multiple sources as an IRGC member.
On June 12, the IRGC deployed a military convoy to Sarvabad city in the western region of Kurdistan province, launching an offensive on the highland areas.
Artillery shelling by the IRGC is continuing, according to Hengaw.
In the preceding week, IRGC forces had positioned themselves around Shahu Mountain in the cities of Ravansar, Paveh, and Sarvabad, located in Kermanshah and Kurdistan provinces.
Drones were used by IRGC forces to bombard the surrounding highlands.
