Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his president Hassan Rouhani are dispatching Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif, and his deputy, Abbas Araghchi, to Japan, Pakistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and other parts of the world. They will arrive with pledges to neutralize the effects of the re-imposed sanctions and a firm policy against the regime. As well, they desire a reduction to the overwhelming economic and political pressures that have rendered the regime helpless.
The Foreign Affairs Committee Chair of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Mohammad Mohaddesin, discussed the situation during his interview with the London-based Elaph website. According to Mohaddesin, “Following the tightening noose of sanctions around the neck of the clerical regime ruling Iran, and ending the era of western appeasement, the clerical regime in Iran has once again resorted to the deception policy.”
Regarding the conferences that the Arab countries had on May 30th in Mecca, the NCRI Foreign Affairs Committee Chair explained, “The Arab Conference in the holy city of Mecca on Thursday has rendered the mullahs’ regime to panic, prompting it to resort to this deception tactic. The regime is aiming to prevent the adoption of a firm policy by the Arab countries against it.”
He pointed out three components that have driven the regime to the brink of disaster:
• Sanctions have begun to have a critical effect, especially now that sanction waivers have gone into effect. On May 25th, Rouhani said, ‘It is unprecedented in the history of Iran that an Iranian cargo ship has not been able to dock at any harbors to unload. It is also unprecedented that during the past 40 years the U.S. State Department continues to contact a small country to advise against an Iranian ship.” The NCRI Foreign Committee Chair added, “It has also been unprecedented during the past 40 years of the Islamic Republic’s lifespan that an Iranian oil tanker attempting to deliver its cargo is constantly tracked by satellites.”
• U.S. military forces in the region is helps to create the current critical situation for the regime, according to Mr. Mohaddesin. He claims that the regime is terrified, because their warmongering policies in the Middle East will not go unanswered. “During the past three decades, since the Kuwait crisis in 1990, the Iranian regime has not paid any price for its meddling in the countries in the region and the main winner of the three wars in 1991, 2001 and 2003 in the Middle East has been the Iranian regime. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the U.S. opened Iraq’s gates to the Iranian regime and the mullahs in Iran actually occupied Iraq without paying any price for it. It was from there that the theocratic regime of Iran found its way to Syria and beyond. But now, the era of sponging and freeloading has ended and the regime’s fears are escalating,” he added.
• Mr. Mohaddesin also said that the active presence of the Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) along with the NCRI — inside and outside Iran — has been significant. Additionally, the growing influence and activities of PMOI/MEK Resistance Units across the country, and the Iranian people themselves welcoming and supporting these activities. They have realized the prospect of the toppling of the regime is very real.
The firm and radical position the Mecca Conference took against the regime of theocrats in Iran was the answer to regime’s ridiculous maneuvers, according to the NCRI Foreign affairs committee chair. The regime should not be allowed to buy time for itself through theses maneuvers.
He added that, following the U.S. State Department designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization” (FTO), a range of complementary measures are now necessary.
– Support and recognition of the Iranian people and their Resistance’s right to achieve freedom and democracy in the country.
– The regime’s Ministry Of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) should also be on the Foreign Terrorist Organizations’ list.
– Iran’s MOIS and IRGC Quds Force must be banned in American and European countries.
– Severing ties with Tehran
– UN Security Council must act on regime’s human rights violations dossier and the case of 1988 massacre of tens of thousands of political prisoners. The perpetrators of these crimes — some still in key positions in the ruling establishment in Iran — must be sent to International Criminal Court.
– An independent, international fact-finding mission to visit prisons in Iran in order to assess the horrific and dreadful situation of political prisoners must be launched.
Evicting the this illegitimate regime from the UN and removing Iran’s proxies from Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Afghanistan must be a top priority, said the Foreign Affairs Committee Chair of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Mr. Mohammad Mohaddesin.
