The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has once again revealed information on the Iranian regime’s nuclear weapons program to the rest of the world; calling for clear action on behalf of the international community to prevent the regime’s nuclear ambitions from being realised.
In the report, the NCRI explains that the regime has a long history of trying to obtain nuclear weapons, indeed, the Resistance has been reporting on it since 2002.
The NCRI wrote: “The regime’s original plan to acquire five nuclear warheads and build a nuclear weapon was seriously setback by the disclosure of the Lavizan-Shian site in May 2003 and the regime was compelled to change its methods, organization, and research and development locations to achieve its goal after that. This resulted in delays in its plans and program.”
The regime claims that they have a civilian purpose for the program, even as they enrich uranium far beyond what is necessary for any civilian purpose. They lie because they hope that they can keep their program if they keep its true purpose under wraps, allowing them to obtain nuclear weapons in secret and use them to blackmail the world. The Resistance was listened to in the past, eventually, and the evidence they provided triggered inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), sanctions from the international community, and measures to control these ambitions in the UN Security Council. They should be listened to again.
The NCRI wrote: “All the evidence cited in this report… suggest that the clerical regime is covertly continuing its nuclear weapons drive, and that even the [Iranian nuclear deal, otherwise known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)] has been unable to halt the regime’s military nuclear weapons projects, and that the regime has maintained, continued and furthered its military nuclear apparatus and activities in violation of the JCPOA.”
The regime is, no doubt, using its nuclear program as leverage to secure concessions from the international community to make up for their vulnerable position at home because the Iranian people are increasingly vocal about wanting to overthrow the regime. The mullahs need money from the nuclear deal to suppress the people and maintain power for a little longer.
The NCRI wrote: “The Iranian regime cannot be trusted, and the international community must remain vigilant. The solution to preventing the regime from obtaining a bomb is not to appease or provide it with concessions or bargain with it over its illegitimate military nuclear project, but to pursue a firm and principled policy vis-à-vis this regime, until such time that Iran is represented by a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear government.”
