Reza Babrnejad, a Kurdish resident of Quchan and brother of Mehdi Babrnejad, who was fatally shot by government forces during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, has been detained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence forces.
On May 21, 2024, the IRGC intelligence forces conducted a raid on Reza Babrnejad’s residence in Quchan, located in Razavi Khorasan Province.
During the operation, Babrnejad was forcibly detained without the presentation of any legal warrant and subsequently taken to an unknown location, as reported by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization.
A source close to the Babrnejad family indicated that the IRGC intelligence forces arrested Reza Babrnejad due to his alleged connection with the death of Ebrahim Raisi and the publication of posts on social networks.
Currently, no details are available regarding his condition or location.
This arrest marks the second instance of Reza being targeted by local IRGC intelligence. He was previously detained on August 11, 2023, coinciding with the anniversary of his deceased brother’s birthday.
Mehdi Babrnejad, a 22-year-old Kurdish resident, was killed in a government crackdown on protests in Quchan on September 21, 2022.
