Russia appears to be receiving regular deliveries of Iranian-made Shahed drones, Britain’s Defense Ministry said Sunday.
A British defense statement posted on Twitter said that Russia, after pausing attacks with the drones for two weeks in late February, has likely launched at least 71 of the drones that it uses to crash into targets in Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials have repeatedly said such attacks target civilian infrastructure.
Britain’s Defense Ministry said Russia is likely launching the drones from Krasnodar Krai and Bryansk Oblast, and that this allows Russia “flexibility to target a broad sector of Ukraine and decreases flying time to targets in the north of Ukraine.”
In his recent Nowruz speech in Mashhad, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei denied sending drones to Russia to attack Ukraine.
“We decisively reject being present in the Ukraine war,” he said.
