An inmate in the Eslamabad-e-Gharb Central Prison in western Iran passed away on March 21 due to lack of medical attention.
According to the Hengaw Organization website, the prisoner was identified as 35-year-old Shahab Daroun-Parvaz. He died of severe gastric bleeding and lack of attention by the prison medical staff.
Daroun-Parvaz was detained two months ago for not being able to pay his wife’s dowry. He was the father of a 10-year-old child.
An informed source said Daroun-Parvaz was in good health when he was arrested and did not suffer from any diseases. His body has yet to given to his family three days after his death.
“His body was taken for autopsy but was kept in the morgue for three days under the excuse that it is the Nowruz holidays,” the source said.
According to statistics by the Hengaw Organization in March 2021, at least 12 prisoners in prisons across Kurdistan lost their lives from March 2020 to March 2021 due to lack of medical attention. Medical negligence in prison is tantamount to torture and endangers lives.
