The Iranian government in a new inhuman act is exiling female political prisoners to faraway places. But the question is why? What does the totalitarian government fear? Is imprisoning these women not enough. Why so much pressure?
Zaynab Jalalian exiled for a fourth time
On January 24, 2021, the political prisoner Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was transferred from the Qarchak prison to the prison of Amol.
The exiling of Maryam Akbari Monfared
On March 9, 2021, the officials of Evin prison in Tehran transferred suddenly Maryam Akbari Monfared to the prison of Semnan during her twelfth year of imprisonment. The other prisoners after they were informed about this act tried to prevent it by protesting, but the prison guards took Akbari Monfared by force.
Three brother and one sister of this political prisoner have been executed by the Iranian regime in previous years. Two of them were victims of the infamous and cruel summer 1988 massacre of political prisoners.
Maryam Akbari Monfared was arrested after the protests of 2009 in Iran and sentenced to 15 years.
The exiling of Sepideh Qolian
Sepideh Qolian a civil rights activist, was transferred and exiled to the Bushehr prison on March 10, 2021. She was had been given a 5-year prison sentence because of the protests and her support for the Haft Tappeh sugarcane workers’ strike.
The exiling of Atena Daemi
Atena Daemi, another political prisoner was exiled and transferred to the Lakan prison of Rasht on March 16, 2021. Ensieh Daemi, her sister, published this news by a voice message on March 17 on her Twitter account. She wrote:
“Another power of the soldiers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Atena Daemi was arrested and handcuffed last night in Evin Prison of the Islamic Republic and exiled to the Lakan Prison of Rasht. To illustrate their power, they have also cut off her phone call. Did not gave her personal properties.”
But why exiling women political prisoners?
The answer is clear. The Iranian government fears their resistance and solidarity in confronting the regime. The authorities are aware about the position of women in the latest protests in Iran. And as they have many times confessed, they fear that they will receive their last blow at the hands of Iranian women. So, they fear the solidarity that exists among Iranian women’s rights activists. They fear a collective statement signed by these women. They fear the impact of a letter by these women. They hope that by scattering these women they would be able to turn off their voices.
Exiling these women will promote and spread the spirit of resistance, opponents say. They will be the messengers of the other political prisoners in every corner of Iran.
