Twenty-eight veteran members of the paramilitary Basij force stationed in two key Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) bases in southeastern Iran have reportedly resigned due to disagreements over deployment orders and the suppression of Baluch citizens.
The mass resignation, reported by the Baluch news website Haalvsh on February 21, involved two IRGC bases located in the city of Nikshar in Sistan and Baluchistan province.
The report quoted informed sources as saying that the resignations stemmed from disputes regarding the deployment of Basij forces to the city of Saravan.
IRGC officials reportedly sought to use these Basijis to crack down on protests in the city.
The provincial capital, Zahedan, was the scene of weekly protests that erupted in September 2022.
