Opponents of Iran’s regime in Germany on Sunday protested the presence of the regime’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at the Munich Security Conference.
Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, or Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), rallying opposite the global security summit, held banners stating the Iranian regime is the number one state sponsor of terrorism and cause of regional instability.
The MEK supporters chanted, “Zarif is a terrorist”, “Kick Javad Zarif out” and “No to appeasement; Yes to Resistance.”
In 2018, at least six Iranian diplomats including a sitting Ambassador were arrested or expelled from Europe for several terror plots targeting primarily the MEK. In June, an Iranian diplomat was arrested in Germany for personally handing over a highly explosive device to two Iranian terrorists who targeted the MEK at the opposition’s annual Free Iran gathering in Paris that was attended by opposition leader Maryam Rajavi and top international lawmakers.
The detained diplomat-terrorist Assadollah Assadi is currently in a Belgian jail cell awaiting prosecution over the terrorist plot.
The MEK protesters in Munich called on the European Union Member States in particular to shut down all the Iranian regime’s embassies and expel agents of the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS) and terrorist Quds Force. They urged both the EU and US to include the entirety of the MOIS and Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) on their terrorist lists.
The protesters pointed out that Zarif bears key responsibility for the regime’s crimes and whitewashing acts of terror. As a member of the Supreme National Security Council, the regime’s highest authority deciding on major terrorist activities outside Iran, Zarif is involved in terrorism.
Addressing the regime’s Parliament last November, Zarif said he and Hassan Rouhani’s government take their orders directly from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
“We are not a system in which people can act on their own … We cannot do anything in this country without having to report it. … It is not true that we acted against the will of the Supreme Leader,” Zarif said. (State television, November 5, 2018)
On January 13, 2014, Zarif placed a wreath on the tomb of terrorist Hezbollah military commander Imad Mughniyeh during a visit to Beirut, prompting condemnation from the U.S. National Security Council.
The MEK supporters urged the Munich Security Conference to hold the regime accountable for its act of international terror.
They called on the international community to recognize the Iranian people’s right to resist against the mullahs’ regime and overthrow their dictators.
The protesters held portraits of NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi with signs that read, “Democracy, freedom with Maryam Rajavi.”
