Upsetting claims have emerged from the Iranian military about them launching a large ballistic missile from a militarized container ship.
The Iranian state-controlled Tasnim news agency published a video of the launch of what is claimed to be a “long-range ballistic missile.” The news agency further reported that the missile successfully hit its target in the Iranian Central Desert.

Hossein Salami, IRGC commander, has made the statement that “nowhere is safe for those powers who seek to threaten our security.”
The missile was deployed from a forty-foot transport container, and open-source analysts have identified the missile as the Dezful medium-range ballistic missile, which has a claimed range of around 600 miles and speeds of up to Mach 7.
The vessel is being speculated to be the Shahid Mahdavi, which is a former Panamax container ship that was repainted and converted for military use in 2023. The vessel is now operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The vessel is 240 meters long and is supposed to have a variety of missile systems on board.
