According to human rights activists, Iranian authorities executed two prisoners and amputated the fingers of two others at Qom’s Langaroud Prison in central Iran.
The human rights association No to Prison – No to Execution reported that the Iranian regime silently implemented the death sentences for two inmates at Langaroud Prison in recent days. Moreover, the regime amputated four fingers of two inmates for robbery.
“Langaroud Prison is one of the most notorious prisons of Iran where the authorities commit enormous crimes secretly,” No to Prison – No to Execution stated, adding, “Authorities prevent any news or information about the prison’s condition from leaking. This prison is known as Guantanamo Prison among inmates.”
Furthermore, there are numerous reports about ill-treatment and sexual abuse against young prisoners. Whistleblowers revealed that someone called Garaei runs the youths’ ward at the prison. He personally supervises and takes part in the torture and ill-treatment of prisoners.
Execution of Four Inmates in a Day
Elsewhere, on January 11, authorities executed at least four prisoners at Meshkinshahr Prison in Ardabil province, northwestern Iran. A source familiar with the issue reported that the name of two executed prisoners was Karbalaei Mehdi Feizi and Moharram Fathi.
“The authorities have accused them of murder. Mehdi Faizi was married. Moharram Fathi was married and had children,” the source said, adding, “These prisoners had been held in prison for more than 11 years.”
There is no information about the names and details of the other two executed inmates. The authorities have held many inmates in this prison despite the coronavirus’s prevalence, which puts the prisoners’ lives and health at severe risk.
Four Executions in Three Prisons
Earlier, from January 7 to 9, Iranian authorities executed at least four inmates in three prisons. According to human rights activists, on January 7, the regime implemented the death sentence for Farzad Nasser Jourshari, 36, at Rasht’s Lakan Prison in Gilan province, northern Iran. He had two seven and 15-year-old daughters. He had spent all of the past four years in solitary confinement.
On January 8, authorities executed 37-year-old Majid Rigi at Zahedan Central Prison in Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeastern Iran. The regime had detained him ten years ago on drug-related charges and finally hanged him a decade later.
Furthermore, the authorities executed two other prisoners for drug-related charges at Qom Central Prison in Qom province on January 9. The executed prisoners were Farzad Mohammad Noureh and Mehdi Joushani.
Based on human rights defenders’ reports, since the beginning of 2021, the Iranian regime has executed at least 13 prisoners in different prisons. The implementation of these cruel sentences, as well as other corporal punishments, shows that the Iranian government continues to resort to inhuman methods to quell society’s protests and objections, dissidents say.
However, Iranian citizens still continue their protests to achieve their fundamental rights. On the other hand, dissidents, mostly supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), have recently intensified their anti-regime activities in different cities, displaying the people’s readiness for a new round of protests.
