Sirvan Parvizi, a Kurdish blogger and satirist from Ilam, Ilam Province, was provisionally released on bail today after two days in detention. Judicial authorities have also seized his Instagram account, which he used to publish satirical content.
Parvizi was arrested on 5 January by the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at his family home in Ilam over his management of a public Instagram account where he created and shared satirical videos addressing the country’s political, social, and economic conditions.
After a day of interrogation at the detention facility of the IRGC’s Intelligence Organisation, Parvizi was transferred to Ilam Central Prison yesterday and provisionally released on bail earlier today.
As part of the judicial action, Parvizi’s Instagram account was seized, and a notice was posted on the page stating: “By order of the honourable judicial authorities, this online address has been seized for publishing criminal content. Those involved in the offences mentioned in the case are under judicial prosecution.”
