To prolong the breakout time it is essential for uranium enrichment restrictions to be put in place. The two main sites in Iran for the enrichment of uranium are at Natanz and Fordow.
It is also important that the heavy-water reactor in Arak is made unusable. If this is not done then it is possible that a by-product can be made into a material that could be used for weapons, creating another pathway to a nuclear weapon for Iran.
At the end of April, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) – the main Iranian opposition, revealed more details about the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program which is continuing at the same rate as before the 2015 nuclear deal was agreed.
They exposed another nuclear site and gave detailed information about how the nuclear program was advancing. This included maps, satellite imagery and details about the key members of the program.
The Iranian regime, as it has done in the past, is using covert facilities to carry out illegal activities. The NCRI said: “The engineering unit that is charged and tasked with actually building the bomb in a secret way for the Iranian regime is called the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research.”
It also indicated that the sites where the research is being carried out are under heavy security by the IRGC guards.
The NCRI has advised the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to carry out inspections of the nuclear sites in Iran and has called on the international community to put an end to the country’s enrichment program. It also called for the dismantling of all Iranian sites involved in the nuclear program.
A representative of the White House National Security Council has stated that the information from the NCRI is being carefully evaluated.
This is not the first time the NCRI has been instrumental in exposing the nefarious activities of the Iranian regime. It initially alerted the world to Iran’s nuclear activities and was able to provide more information that intelligences agencies, thanks to its large network of people inside Iran.
Iran’s weaponisation program must be dismantled immediately and there needs to be strict controls over its nuclear program. This should include unconditional access to all its sites and nuclear experts. Iran should not be allowed to cheat like it did when the Obama administration was in control.
